INFORMATION & SETTING
Rappaport's law strictly forbids any fraternization with non magical folk. Witches and Wizards have long been forbidden from any intermingling; no friendship, certainly no romance. Support for a repeal grows, though, and many fear North America's magical line dying out without fresh bloodlines. Mysterious disappearances tied to witch hunters have occurred throughout the magical community, however. So, which fear will win out? The fear of being wiped out or the fear of fading away?

Missing Ilvermorny Professor Found Dead in Bed
By Idanna Merchant
Professor Arlyss J. Beaumont, Master of Potions at Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardy has been found this morning, dead at his home in Fort Sayre, Vermont. As the Gazette previously reported, the Professor, who had been teaching at Ilvermorny since 1902, was reported missing several weeks ago by his great nephew, Bertram Beaumont. After several days of no contact, the younger Beaumont had traveled to the professor's home to check in and discovered the house empty, revealing to reporters at the time that a thin layer of dust had set in over his relative's belongings and that the plants had been left uncared for; both highly unusual for the meticulous elder.
"There was no sign of forced entry, no evidence of foul play or a struggle," Auror Bruce McKinnon explained to the shortly after the discovery of the body. "He's an old man, you know? Sometimes they just choose to live a new life while they still have time left. At this time, no we don't think it's related to any other notable reports. Now please, this is the men's toilet. Get out." The other "notable reports" McKinnon references, of course, would be the disappearances of multiple witches and wizards over the last year, including one former President of MACUSA. At this time, each of the disappearances has turned up little evidence or information and this is the first to result in a body. However, as MACUSA has explained, the death of Professor Beaumont could be entirely unrelated. He may very well have simply popped off for a bit of travel, leaving his life long work abandoned to the unworthy hands of his assistant, Phaedra Blackthorn.
"He'd been training the Blackthorn girl for years and years, ever since she graduated," the Gazette was informed by a source whom wished to remain anonymous. "Just never quite thought she was ready." According to the same source, Blackthorn was the last to see Professor Beaumont alive, meeting him for a private lunch shortly before his disappearance. Since the new school year began at Ilvermorny two weeks past, Blackthorn has been filling in for the missing man. Now that Beaumont was found deceased, it's expected that she will permanently assume his role.
Alryss J. Beaumont was a well respected man, decorated within his field. While MACUSA will not say that there was anyone else involved in his death, those who were closest to him will remember him as a focused man who loved his work. The thousands of students who passed through his classroom during the last six decades will remember him as a professor that pushed, but cared and gave assistance as it was needed. We here at the Greylock Gazette hope that he rests well and send our condolences to his loving family.
